I woke at 5 a.m. and headed out and ended up putting in 8 miles by the time I got to a Cracker Barrel.. that justification made a sit down meal seem ok, but I only spent about 15 minutes there the food came so quickly and I ate so fast.
There were a lot of cute farms I passed before it started to rain hard and I started rising in elevation steeply.
I had to put on music to keep me going up hill without losing will power. On the side of the road there is no one to hear you sing.. so I finally feel comfortable doing it again. I never sing in New York City. Hopefully no one heard me singing “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”. They could have taken it the wrong way.
It started to rain soon after that as I rose in elevation.
With my rain jacket and rain pants though it posed little problem, it was just an annoyance to not be able to charge my phone off the solar battery and refill it before the end of the day, so now I’m being very power mindful and typing quickly.
Once I got up on the side of a valley and could look out over the expanse and I saw the mist rising from the fields as the rain eased off it was very beautiful and it gave my spirits a boost.
Now I’m sitting by my tent next to the Bethany Methodist Church in Hamburg, PA in perfectly pleasant cool weather as the sun sets.
I do wish I hadn’t tried to eat that 20 inch meatball sub for dinner though… I feel rather full. I only downed 15 inches though.
But maybe that is justified by this?

Neat photos & thank god, No Spiders!!! Stay safe.
I love Cracker Barrel. You had me until I scrolled down and saw the Tabasco sauce on your eggs…
I love the picture of the farm. Enjoying reading your blog on a daily basis and seeing your pictures. Safe Travels!!
Great photos. Love the daily updates. Know this will be life changing!
Any way you can hook your hand-crank charger up to the wheels? Turn all that mechanical energy in the wheels into electrical energy while you walk!
Not without a bunch of wasteful rude goldberg style gearing and belts.. and the arms made of plastic so it would immediately brake. I know this sort of thing must exist for bikes.. I’ve thought about having my dad investigate getting one and I could clamp it to the frame so it could be lowered into contact with the wheel, or pulled up depending on need and wanting or not wanting the extra resistance.
