Today I walked through fresh oil and rock chips for hours and hours. My tires were like sticky tack for hours after that, but I managed to clean them off by running through the watery ditch and tall grasses a bit. Other than that.. today was beautiful!
The weather was perfect, the miles went easily and early on in the day some googling and phone work paid off when the Fredericksburg Methodist Church agreed to let me set up camp on their grounds for the night. FYI Fredericksburg Methodist Church… I see those two outdoor electrical outlets and I’m sorry but I’m going to use them after this blog post is done. I could.. slip a dollar under the door? Ok I’ll do that. Some confused Vacation Bible School person is going to probably find that tomorrow and take it, but it’s the thought that counts right?
Today was mostly farmland and small towns like…
I also walked by the first Amish Mennonite community in North America.
I did see a lot of Mennonites today, almost exclusively except for when I stopped to shovel calories into my face at a truck stop and water into my storage.
I think I rose in elevation today. The last stretch of the ~30 miles was all on the wide top of a hill covered in cattle pastures, corn and wheat fields. The roads up here were very sparsely populated by cars.
The perfect place for some biking, and apparently these cows that were either mad into me or mad at me. I couldn’t decipher if they meant to intimidate me or admire me…

Now I have to plan for tomorrow… looks like I’ll hit Harrisburg. The capital of Pennsylvania that annoyingly then connects to Mechanicsburg without any rural separation. I can’t wait to be outside of this eastern industrial town density.

Those curious Holstein cows bring me quite a bit of joy – I’m so glad you stuck around to capture the moment. AND that wheat field *swoons* makes me wish I was back home in CO *hugs* Congrats on the day – think that’s a personal best for The Roam, no?
You’re a cow magnet.
Be careful. I am so proud of you, keep posting. When I saw you had walked 65,000 steps in one day, hopefully that will motivate me to do at least 10,000. Good luck.
To understand Cows, one must think like a cow. “Humans bring me food. You are a human, where’s my food?” Here endeth the lesson…
my dad was a milk inspector. he said if you took a bucket, turned it upside down and sat in the middle of a field, pretty soon you would be surrounded by Cows. they are very curious!
