Practicing What I’ve Preached

In my last post I wrote about fear and the selfish hoarding of resources we do because of fear, yet when was the last time I shared with anyone?

This made me look at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in a new light, when I had previous seen it just as a way for people to promote themselves on social media.

I’m typically a very onry and anti-conformist type of guy. When I first heard about the ALS ice bucket challenge I had the same thoughts many of you probably have. Oh great, another way for people to appear charitable online, win some internet points and feel important in their social circles without actually helping anyone.

I’m sure to some people participating that is all that the challenge is, but the fact is it is actually helping raise money for ALS research, and that is a good thing.
Sure you could donate without making a video, and that is great, but the social sharing aspect of the challenge is what spreads it and causes others to donate as well.

So make your videos and make your donations and share that you did, not to be recognized, but to encourage others to do the same.

and here is Caitlin’s, who challenged me. We filmed hers in the garden behind the backyard, our urban oasis.
